G2E ACQUIRES CASINO DESIGN, RACINO CONFERENCES
Niche Events Address Key Areas of Industry Growth

LAS VEGAS—Global Gaming Expo (G2E) a joint venture of the American Gaming Association (AGA) and Reed Exhibitions, today announced the acquisition of two conferences: Casino Design Conference & Symposium and Racino, both of which will focus on burgeoning sectors within the gaming industry.   The events will complement and expand on the ideas presented at G2E, the gaming industry’s premier trade show and conference.

Entering its second year, Casino Design Conference & Symposium is the first conference devoted to the art and science of architecture, construction, interior design, landscape architecture, land-use, signage and all other issues surrounding the development of gaming resorts.   This year’s event, scheduled for June 2-4 at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, N.J., will bring gaming industry leaders together with the leading minds in casino design to discuss the trends that will define the look of the next generation of gaming properties.

“Our mission to keep those involved in this industry on the cutting edge of the latest developments,” said Frank J. Fahrenkopf, Jr., president and CEO of the American Gaming Association.   “These acquisitions will help us meet those needs in two areas where we have seen considerable growth and change in recent years.”

Entering its third year, Racino, scheduled for Nov. 3-5 at the Marriott Toronto Airport in Toronto, Canada, is the only conference devoted exclusively to the issues facing racetrack casinos, one of the fastest-growing sectors of the gaming industry.

According to a 2004 AGA report, racetrack casinos, or “racinos,” in six states generated more than $2 billion in total revenue in 2003.   Two more states - New York and Maine - recently legalized racinos, and several others are considering adding slot machines and/or video lottery terminals to existing racetracks or developing new racino properties as a means to generate tax revenue for states and local communities.

Racino sessions will focus on a variety of topics related to the industry, including examinations of slot machines vs. video lottery terminals, marketing schemes for racinos, tax strategies employed by various racino states, the importance of responsible gaming at racetracks, security and surveillance, and more.

Casino Design and Racino were previously owned and managed by the industry trade publication Global Gaming Business. The publication will continue its affiliation with both events as a participating sponsor, and publisher Paul Dworin and editor/co-publisher Roger Gros will remain as consultants.
