G2E TO DEBUT DESIGN & DECOR PAVILION IN 2004
Exhibits, Conference Sessions to Focus on Architecture, Interior Design and More

LAS VEGAS— From the refined opulence of the Bellagio to the tribal grandeur of Mohegan Sun, design and décor has played a critical role in the success of gaming properties.  In order to help gaming industry executives keep pace with the cutting-edge design trends that will shape the future of the industry, organizers of Global Gaming Expo (G2E) today announced the debut of a new pavilion and conference track exclusively devoted to design and décor.  The G2E Design & Décor Pavilion will debut at G2E 2004, set for Oct. 5-7, 2004, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“With the expansion of Native American casino properties into more regions of the country and the growth and redesign of existing commercial casinos, we saw a need to focus on these aspects of our business,” said Frank J. Fahrenkopf, Jr., president and chief executive officer of the American Gaming Association (AGA).  “G2E has always aimed to provide leaders from the gaming industry with a comprehensive set of tools to succeed in all levels of business, and the addition of this new pavilion and conference track is consistent with that goal.”

G2E’s Design & Décor Pavilion will be a dedicated area of the show floor where design and décor suppliers will have the opportunity to showcase their products and services for the world’s leading gaming industry executives.  Products and services will focus on architecture, construction, interior design, landscape architecture, land use, signage, furniture and fixtures, themed environments, golf course design, spa development, hospitality services, lighting and more.  It will also feature several architectural firms specific to the Native American market.

“The opportunities within this industry in the design and décor arenas are staggering,” said Julie Brinkerhoff-Jacobs, president and chief financial officer of Lifescapes International, Inc., a landscape architecture firm that has designed more than 50 casino resort projects.  “The recent re-theming of Treasure Island, the construction of the new Wynn Las Vegas property and the expansion of several existing resorts on the Strip are evidence of just how much this industry is growing - and that’s just in Las Vegas.  G2E will allow businesses like mine to tap into this unique and growing market.”

In addition to the pavilion on the show floor, G2E will introduce a new conference track focused on design and décor issues specific to the gaming industry, allowing attendees to learn about trends that will be important for the modern gaming executive.

Experts from the design and décor arena, including Brinkerhoff-Jacobs, have been added to G2E’s conference advisory board, and conference speakers will include leading architects, interior designers and others.  Sessions will examine such issues as trends in casino design, the future of themed resorts and the relative strengths of large mega-resorts versus smaller, individualized properties.

The Design & Décor Pavilion is the fourth specialized area of the G2E exhibit floor to showcase a new growth area within the gaming industry.  The Bingo Pavilion, Interactive Gaming Pavilion and accompanying conference tracks debuted at G2E 2001, and the Security & Surveillance Pavilion and conference track debuted last year.

“The number of design and décor firms eager to reach casino properties has risen consistently over the past three years, as has the industry’s demand for these products and services,” said Courtney Muller, vice president and show manager of Reed Exhibitions.  “These factors led to the development of the Design & Décor Pavilion, which will provide the ideal business-to-business marketplace for suppliers to meet with the most senior-level buyers in the gaming industry.”

Approximately 22,700 gaming industry professionals attended G2E 2003.  Participants represented 49 U.S. states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, as well as 94 different countries.
