G2E 2003 Scores a Triple
Three National Media Stars Will Be Featured Keynote Speakers at Annual Gaming Industry Event
Las Vegas—Global Gaming Expo (G2E) today announced that three of the nation’s most renowned media personalities will lend their unique perspectives to G2E 2003. Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist George Will, Emmy Award-winning talk-show host Larry King and noted MSNBC pollster Frank Luntz will be featured at three keynote addresses during the annual trade show and conference, to be held Sept. 16-18, 2003 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
"G2E has always centered on the vibrant exchange of ideas and information among the leaders of the gaming industry, and this trio of media personalities will bring fresh perspective on the issues facing our industry,” said Frank J. Fahrenkopf, Jr., president and CEO of the American Gaming Association (AGA). "The media are a powerful force in shaping public opinion about the gaming industry, and this year’s keynote events will offer all G2E attendees a unique opportunity to view our industry through the lenses of two veteran journalists and a nationally renowned pollster. I look forward to the lively debate each of these speakers will undoubtedly generate."
Will, one of the most respected political columnists of this generation, is scheduled to deliver the opening keynote address of G2E 2003 on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Will's newspaper column has been in syndication by The Washington Post for nearly three decades and today appears twice weekly in just under 500 newspapers in the United States and Europe. In 1976, Will became a regular contributing editor of Newsweek magazine and began contributing a bimonthly back-page essay. He won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary in his newspaper columns in 1977. In his G2E address, Will plans to focus on the role of public affairs and public policy in American society.
On the second day of G2E 2003, Emmy Award-winning talk-show host King will showcase his interview skills as moderator of the popular State of the Industry keynote address. King is the host of CNN's Larry King Live, the first worldwide phone-in television talk show and the network’s highest-rated program.
The State of the Industry roundtable discussion will feature a panel of leading gaming industry executives, such as G. Thomas Baker, president and CEO of International Game Technology; Frank J. Fahrenkopf, Jr., president and CEO of AGA; Gary Loveman, president and CEO of Harrah's Entertainment, Inc.; and Ernie Stevens, chairman of the National Indian Gaming Association.
King will lead the panelists in a lively discussion of the top issues facing the casino industry, including economic issues affecting the overall travel and tourism industry as well as the future and growth of gaming. Known as a provocative interviewer, King has accumulated more than 40,000 interviews with politicians, celebrities and other noteworthy guests. King has been dubbed "the most remarkable talk-show host on TV ever" by TV Guide and "master of the mike" by Time Magazine.
New to G2E this year is the Signature Series keynote address. MSNBC pollster Luntz will host the event on the final day of G2E. In a departure from the other keynote events, the Signature Series is designed to give attendees a look at gaming from the perspective of the general public and casino patrons. The event will feature a spirited interactive exchange between members of the public and three of the world's foremost experts on gaming issues, David Creary, acting CEO, Aristocrat Technologies, Inc.; Jan Laverty Jones, senior vice president of communications at Harrah’s Entertainment; and Dr. Howard Shaffer, director, Division on Addictions, Harvard Medical School.
Luntz is one of the most honored political and communications professionals in America today. Media outlets consistently have turned to Luntz for polling and consulting services, and Time Magazine named him one of "50 of America's most promising leaders aged 40 and under." Further, he has been a featured guest on highly regarded shows such as 60 Minutes, Meet the Press, The Today Show and Good Morning America, among others.
All three keynote events will take place from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in room N246 of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Keynote events are open to all G2E badged participants at no charge, and no advance registration is required.
G2E is the international gaming trade show and conference “by the industry and for the industry.” Organized by the American Gaming Association (AGA) and Reed Exhibitions, G2E made its debut in fall 2001, defining itself as the pre-eminent show for the gaming-entertainment industry.
The AGA represents the commercial casino-entertainment industry by addressing federal legislative and regulatory issues. The association also serves as a clearinghouse for information, develops educational and advocacy programs, and provides leadership on industry-related issues of public concern.
Reed Exhibitions is a world leader in creating high profile, targeted industry events where buyers and suppliers come together to do business. Every year, Reed events bring together some 160,000 suppliers and over nine million buyers from around the world. Today, Reed events are held in 35 countries throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia/Pacific, and are organized by 30 fully staffed offices. Reed’s portfolio of 470 events services 49 industries in 12 key sectors.
